Team Info

The Memphis Showboats played 2 seasons in the USFL in 1984-85 at Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium. Longtime college coach Pepper Rodgers served as head coach and the team consistently was at the top of the league in attendance. This home field advantage even led to the Showboats hosting a 1985 playoff game in which they should have been the road team. The league believed it would look better to have a full stadium on tv. The fan support for the Showboats opened the door for future teams such as the Memphis Mad Dogs and the Houston Oilers' move to Tennessee.
