When the Sharks arrived in the South Bay, they had to make the Cow Palace home in in San Francisco their home ice for two seasons while their arena was being built in San Jose. Shortly after the Sharks moved out, the San Francisco Spiders of the International Hockey League began play in the arena featuring seven former Sharks players. Unfortunately, there was little interest in a second Bay Area hockey team and the Spiders lasted only one season.
